How to become a glamour model: 7 tips lead you on the path

November 19, 2014 by Rodney Liddell Leave a Comment

Becoming a glamor model is a very difficult and arduous task involving a lot of patience, perseverance, and guts and attitude. Even if you have all these, there is no guarantee of success. If you do make it, glamor modeling is one of the most lucrative and fulfilling professions.

If you do want to be a glamor model, here are 7 pointers in achieving your dream.

1. Beauty is a prerequisite

Remember that the modeling business, and especially, the glamor business, is based on beauty. As a glamor model you have to be beautiful. In this industry, beauty is not only in the eyes of the beholder – beauty is as projected through the lens of a camera. Your photograph projects your beauty, and your photograph (or video) is what will induce others to buy what the industry wants to sell. Beauty, in the glamor world is both a metric and a concept.

2. Vital Statistics

Agencies hiring glamor models look for a certain type of figure. The measurement standards are – 34-B for bust, 22 to 24 to 34 for the hips and 22 to 24 inches for the waist. The ideal of 36-24-36 is almost unchanged through the years for glamor models.

3. Get a stunning portfolio

A fantastic portfolio is all important for you to get that modeling break. Get it done by a professional for it can make or break your career. If you can afford it, approach a published photographer to get the best photographs. If money is a criterion, you can try the TFP (Trade For Prints) or TFCD (Trade For CDs) route. Here the photographer hands over prints or CD in exchange for modeling time.

Go in for Quality instead of Quantity. A few great pics are worth much more than a lot of mediocre ones.

Portfolios hosted on the net rarely elicit response; so you will have to foot-slog it to seek work, at least till you get established.

4. Get a Comp Card

A Comp Card (or composite card) is one which is a card, typically 5×7 inches, which has several pictures of you and gives all your vital statistics (Height, weight, bust, waist, hips, hair and eye color, dress size). It is like your calling card. Always have them with you and distribute them liberally when you meet people from the industry.

5. Establish your comfort zone

You must understand that as a glamor model, you might have to overcome your inhibitions of posing for lingerie shots or showing a fair amount of skin. You may also be asked to do nude photographs. You have the right to draw your own line. Erotic and nude shots can ensure you a lot of work, money and instant fame (or notoriety); but tend to hound you once you become famous.

6. Be organized

It is very important that you organize your schedules meticulously. You need to keep track of interviews, photo shoots and other events to avoid getting late or skipping them altogether. Appearing careless or sloppy is something you can do without.

7. Be flexible and adjustable

Your schedules may involve shooting at various locations around the world, at odd times and under varying conditions. Be prepared for last minute shoots or cancellations. Learn to adjust to circumstances. That is what professionalism is all about. The glamor modeling world plays havoc with your social life. Be prepared for it.

The glamor world is a very competitive and ruthless one with few whom you can call a friend. It is tough to get a foothold in this industry, but not impossible. We hope the tips we have given you will help you in realizing your career choice of a glamor model.
